Should I Go To The Dentist?

A common question people ask is how often they should go to the dentist. A quick answer is once a year at least, but there are many other reasons that should warrant a visit to the dentist’s office. So what are they?

Migraine

Migraines could be a symptom of an unknown dental issue. A common symptom of t emporomandibular joint disorder includes migraines and headaches. This joint connects your jawbone to your skull acting as a hinge. The specific cause is often difficult to pinpoint but most people experience similar symptoms. If the migraines persist and your jaw is tender, contact your dentist immediately.

Toothache

A toothache is a huge sign you need to visit your dentist. It could be a result of a number of issues. Toothaches occur when nerves in the root of a tooth because irritated or inflamed. Dental infection, decay, injury, or tooth loss are the most common causes of toothaches. If you experience difficulty chewing, sensitivity to temperature, bleeding, discharge around the gum, or swelling you are likely experiencing a severe toothache. Toothaches are common symptoms of other oral health issues like gum disease so it’s vital to visit a dentist as soon as possible.

Yearly Visit

You should visit your dentist at least once a year, if not more. Dentists recommend coming in for a cleaning every six months if possible. At your yearly checkup, they will check to see if there are any issues with your gums or teeth. In addition, the hygienist will clean your teeth. There are certain tools necessary to remove tartar that only dental offices have access to. So in order to remove tartar, you need to visit your dentist for a cleaning. As stated before, this is the best time to bring any dental issues you have to your dentist’s attention.
