Process Of Getting A Crown

premier • Aug 21, 2020

Are you worried about getting a crown? Don’t be! Here is the simple process of getting a dental crown.

Crown

A dental crown is a covering for your tooth. They are recommended for various reasons, but the result is to protect your tooth. If your tooth is worn down, chipped, cracked, or damaged in any other form, this may be recommended to you. In addition, a crown may be recommended if you had a recent root canal. The process of getting one is straightforward. This is a routine service that many people need. So how does it work?

First Appointment

Your first dental appointment for your crown will involve an exam. Your dentist will want to look over the tooth once more before moving on to the next steps. He or she will likely take an impression of your tooth. An impression, or mold, provides a replica of the tooth needing the crown. Your permanent crown will not be ready after your first appointment. As a result, your dentist will place a temporary one over the tooth to protect it. You will wear it until your next appointment.

Second Appointment

Your second appointment will include the actual placing of the permanent crown on your tooth. The dentist uses permanent dental glue to adhere the mold to your tooth. As a result, your permanent one will not move. Dental crowns are created out of various materials, which depends on the individual. Some of the most common materials include :

  • porcelain
  • ceramic
  • zirconia
  • metal
  • composite resin
  • a combination of materials
